What You Will Learn and Do ?
During your time on the farm, you’ll gain valuable hands-on experience in various aspects of sustainable agriculture. You’ll learn organic farming techniques, composting methods, and ways to enrich soil naturally. You'll also explore different irrigation practices, assist in animal care including milking, and discover how to make traditional Nepali products like Gundruk (fermented greens), Gundri (handmade straw mats), and homemade ghee. One of the most memorable experiences will be ploughing fields using oxen — a traditional and rewarding practice. You’ll also learn how to grow crops based on Nepal’s seasonal planting calendar. This cultural and agricultural exchange will not only deepen your understanding of rural life in Nepal, but also inspire you to bring sustainable practices back home.

This program is open to a wide range of participants. Whether you’re a university student, a professional, part of a school group, a family, a couple, or a solo traveler — you’re welcome here. Anyone aged 16 and above can join. No previous experience is needed. If you are enthusiastic, flexible, curious, and open to learning, this program is for you. While an agricultural background is a bonus, full training and guidance will be provided upon arrival.
Location
Volunteer placements are available in beautiful rural areas such as Riepe Village, Bandipur Village, and Nuwakot Village. These regions offer stunning views, rich cultural traditions, and a peaceful environment perfect for meaningful work and learning. Most farms are located just 2 to 4 kilometers from your accommodation, and you’ll use local transportation such as minibuses or taxis to reach them. For those interested in rice planting, the best time to join is during June and July, which is Nepal’s monsoon season.
Accommodation and Meals
You’ll have two accommodation options depending on availability and your preference. You will have your own private room and serve three local meals a day, and experience complete cultural immersion by living with a Nepali family. Meals will be served a local or continental. You’ll also have the opportunity to learn how to cook traditional Nepali dishes and get involved in daily village life. Our team will visit you every two weeks to check on your well-being and offer support if needed.
Transportation
Upon arrival at Kathmandu International Airport, our friendly team will welcome you and provide a 2 to 3-day orientation in Kathmandu. After the orientation, we will help you travel to your assigned village and get settled into your placement. For local errands or exploring nearby areas, you can use public transport such as microbuses, taxis, or walk around the village.
Duration and Availability
The program is flexible and can be tailored to fit your schedule. You can join for as little as 2 week or stay for up to 2 months. Start dates are available throughout the year, and we recommend applying at least two weeks in advance of your intended start date.
